Police and firefighter-paramedics responded to an emergency call Saturday just after 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 8800 block of Root. Firefighters found Tomas E. Harrison, 49, on the floor next to his bed and tried to perform life-saving attempts, according to the police report, but to no avail. Firefighters confirmed with a doctor at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital that Mr. Harrison had passed away. Mr. Harrison's wife said she did not know if her husband had any serious medical conditions and did not see a regular doctor, police indicated. Police responded to a home in the 7500 block of Waukegan Road Nov. 14, just before 8 p.m., for a report of an unresponsive man. Niles Fire Department paramedics were performing life saving measures on the man, Marlon M. Gunnart, 36, but were unable to discern signs of life, and pronounced him dead, according to the police report. Gunnart's children said he had left the house to go to work at about 8 a.m., returned around 4 p.m., ate a snack, and went to his room, as he often did, to take a nap. Paramedics and police were called to a home in the 7600 block of Waukegan Road Saturday at about 11 a.m. after a resident had fallen. The man's 53-year-old son said he had gotten his father a donut from Dunkin Donuts at 7 a.m., then left for a doctor appointment, according to a police report. When he returned shortly before 11 a.m., he saw his father, Vincenzo Favia, 85, lying at the foot of the stairs, and went to him to try to wake him up, according to a police report. He saw a pool of blood and said the elder man felt cool to the touch, police said. Paramedics arrived and attempted to resuscitate the father, but could not, and he was pronounced dead. Police responded to a report of an unresponsive man, Maksim Sapozhnikov, 31, in a taxi Wednesday at about 4:25 a.m., after the taxi had returned to the man's residence in the 9700 block of Fox Glen, Niles. When Niles police arrived, paramedics from the North Maine Fire Department were attempting life-saving measures, and a Cook County Sheriff's Police sergeant on scene related he had found Sapozhnikov in the back seat of the taxi, unresponsive and still warm to the touch. Update: Mount Prospect police provided information that the man was found by his fiancee at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, April 12. A Mount Prospect man never to made it to work in Evanston Wednesday night, and was found Thursday deceased in his car, of heart-related causes, in the parking lot of a Niles retail store. Claire L. Neuberger, 31, of Chicago died Tuesday evening after suffering a seizure, Niles police said. At about 5 p.m., Niles police and fire departments responded to a call saying a woman had suffered a seizure at the Leaning Tower YMCA, 6300 W. Touhy, Niles. Neuberger was teaching a swim class in the YMCA's pool when she suffered the seizure, and other instructors rushed to begin lifesaving efforts, according to police. Niles Fire Department paramedics took over lifesaving efforts when they arrived, and took the woman to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Man was in his 30s; it was the second suspicious death in a week in Park Ridge.
Park Ridge police had no updates Thursday night in the case of a dead body that was found in the wee hours of Thursday morning in a parking area near the Park Ridge Metra station. Police are investigating the death, and said the body, of a male about age 30 to 35, did not have identification, according to CBSlocal.com. The body was found on the ground in the 200 block of South Summit Avenue, the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate reported. That location is slightly west and south of St. Paul of the Cross Church and school. Police responded to a well-being check for Paul Fordonski, 70, on Oct. 28 at 10:50 a.m. at his apartment in the 9100 block of Terrace Drive, Niles. The building engineer said he had not seen Fordonski in more than 30 days. Police officers said they smelled a foul odor that got stronger as they neared the apartment, and they entered through an open window. They said the home was in horrendous condition and poorly kept. They found Fordonski's body laying in a bathroom face down, with no signs of visible injury, and said the body was in a long-period timeframe of decomposition.
