Illinois police, Cook County police, Chicago police and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in a memorial service in Park Ridge on Monday.
Park Ridge residents and community groups gathered with elected officials and members of law enforcement to honor police killed in the line of duty on the steps of city hall on Monday. Members of the Illinois State Police Department, Cook County police, the Chicago Police Department and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in the ceremony, which was hosted by the Park Ridge Police Chaplains Association. The ceremony also commemorated National Police Week, which is May 12 to May 18. A number of different officials took turns reading the names of members of law enforcement killed in the line of duty. Des Plaines Police Chief William Kushner said a former police commander told officers that reporting information for a federally funded traffic enforcement campaign was OK when it was not.
A former Des Plaines police commander told police officers reporting overtime hours for a federally funded traffic enforcement program was OK when it was not, said Police Chief William Kushner. In a public statement on Tuesday, the city announced 13 Des Plaines police officers would be suspended for varying lengths of time following an investigation into information reported to the Illinois Department of Transportation to qualify for grant funding. The Illinois Department of Transportation suspended funding of the traffic safety grant in August 2012, pending an investigation into data about DUI arrests that may have been fraudulent. The mother of a Maine West High School student filed a complaint with the Circuit Court of Cook County alleging hazing at Maine Township High School District 207.
The parents of a Maine West High School student filed a lawsuit on Nov. 19 that accuses the school district, faculty and staff of allowing their son to be physically and sexually assaulted as part of a known hazing ritual for the boys' varsity soccer team. The hazing ritual was ordered and witnessed by several coaches, according to the complaint, when, on Sept. 27, Michael Divencenzo, varsity soccer coach, Emilio Rodriguez, freshmen soccer coach, and other coaches ordered a “campus run” after the freshman soccer player was promoted to the varsity squad. During the “campus run” the boy’s teammates grabbed him, according to the complaint, tore off his underwear, held him down so he could not resist, grabbed his testicles and sodomized him …

Law enforcement reported they believe they arrested a man is responsible for five armed bank robberies, and an attempted armed bank robbery in Des Plaines, in Kentucky. Todd Berkley, 39, dubbed the “Elmer Fudd Bandit” by the FBI due to the flannel shirts and caps seen on a male suspect in surveillance video, was arrested at an apartment building by Kentucky State Police and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 2, the Grayson County News Gazette reported. Reports of inappropriate conduct by several players on Maine West High School’s boys’ soccer team are being investigated by the high school, school district, Des Plaines Police Department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, according to a statement released by Maine Township High School District 207. The Maine West soccer players who face disciplinary action will not be allowed to play, pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the school district’s statement. A 2003 Cadillac side-swiped a Pace bus, struck a guard rail and crashed into a truck on Friday morning, according to Des Plaines police.
A Mount Prospect man was killed this morning after police reported he crashed into a Pace bus and tractor trailer on Friday morning, Des Plaines police stated on Friday. The man was driving his 2003 Cadillac southbound on Elmhurst Road at Oakton Street in the outside lane when he veered off the road and sideswiped a Pace bus that was stopped to pick up passengers on Elmhurst Road, south of Oakton Street at 6:25 a.m. The man’s vehicle continued southbound on Elmhurst Road after swiping the bus, crossed to the east side of Elmhurst Road and struck a guard rail. Police: No foul play suspected.
A woman was discovered on the sidewalk in front of the Des Plaines police station by a passer-by Tuesday morning, TribLocal reported. Donna Cinelli, 49, of Des Plaines, was pronounced dead at the scene, and police stated no foul play was suspected. Des Plaines Police stated they believe Cinelli had health problems. Commander Nick Treantafeles said police do not know how Cinelli ended up on the sidewalk, nor do they know how long she was lying there before she was found. “We’re not going to investigate this case because there was nothing suspicious or unusual about it,” Treantafeles said.
