Pizza Wars 3 Was a Delicious Battle For the Ages

So, who won Pizza Wars 3? Was it Lincolnwood's Lou Malnati's? Or maybe Morton Grove-based Pequod's. Maybe, just maybe, a Skokie based business took home the coveted prize.

Pizza Wars 3 was a jam-packed success. The event, which started at 6 p.m. on Thursday, was held at Niles West High School. Within half-an-hour of kicking off, there was a line outside the building and some 800 tickets were already purchased. Hosted by District 219's Education Foundation for Excellence, Pizza Wars has come a long way from its humble beginnings. But who won Pizza Wars 3? More than a dozen restaurants competed - some from as far as Wheeling - but in the end, it was downtown Skokie's very own Village Inn. "After three years, it feels great to finally bring home the 'bacon,'" said Village Inn owner Randy Miles. "It's nice, you know. I feel vindicated after not winning the last two years." Last year, Jet's Pizza brought home the…

Randy should get a gold metal for all of the support he provides to our Village. This is a great award, but he is also a great community leader. Congrats to Randy and his awesome staff at Village Inn. Ross Mathee   more ›

Pizza Wars! Crowns Jet's Best Pizza in Town

Area eateries competed Thursday night in an effort to raise funds to help needy students at Niles North and Niles West High School.

Traci-Larson Lee juggles a lot of things as a mother of five. From hosting an Italian exchange student at her home to rescuing local troubled dogs to working full-time at her job at nonprofit AFS-USA. Yet among her many goals is helping hungry and homeless students at Niles North and Niles West High School through District 219's Education Foundation for Excellence. The Education Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization that aims to provide additional resources outside the scope of the regular school district budget. When brainstorming for creative ideas to generate funds to help hungry students, Lee came up with the idea of Pizza Wars! nearly two years ago. Fast forward to today, and the center of the pizza world was at Niles West…

Pizzerias Battle For Bragging Rights

Pequod's takes top honors at District 219 Foundation's first-ever Pizza Wars

In an epic battle of cheesiness, local pizzerias faced off in the first-ever “Pizza Wars” at Niles West High School Thursday evening. California Pizza Kitchen, Domino’s, Edwardo’s, Graziano’s, Gulliver’s, Lou Malnati’s, Nancy’s, Pequod’s, Sarpino’s and Village Inn – and Aramark, the food service provider for Niles North and West high schools – offered samples of their cheese pizza to more than 250 students, staff and community members. The winner? Pequod’s, 8520 Fernald Avenue, Morton Grove. The District 219 Education Foundation for Excellence sponsored the evening with the help of Dance Marathon, a student organization that raises money for charitable causes. It had a dual goal: to raise money for the foundation and to bring the community…
