Charges have been filed against an Evanston teen for a shooting that occurred outside Old Orchard Mall in Skokie on May 17.
Criminal charges have been filed against Rayshawn Taylor, 17 , of the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue in Evanston, in connection with a shooting that took place outside Old Orchard Mall near the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard. Taylor is charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. Taylor shot a juvenile with a semiautomatic pistol on May 17 around 9:45 p.m., police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a male subject lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He is currently in stable condition. Larissa Lomax, the 32-year-old who police say struck and killed Skokie resident Alan Rubin, appeared in court on Wednesday. Authorities say Lomax was driving under the influence of drugs when she hit the 56-year-old on April 2. Court records revealed that Lomax has had 15 traffic citations dating back to 2004. Some included speeding 15 to 25 mph over the speed limit while others were for "squelching" her vehicle's tires. The Evanston resident was dressed in sneakers, blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt as she appeared before Judge Lauren Edidin at the Skokie Courthouse. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office Charged an Evanston man with 11 counts of armed robbery today. The announcement was made at the Skokie police station.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved 11 counts of armed robbery against an Evanston man today. The announcement was made at the Skokie Police Department at 10:30 a.m. Jason Logsdon, 41, of the 900 block of Chicago Avenue in Evanston, was charged with 11 counts of armed robbery, all Class X felonies. Police believe Logsdon is responsible for a total of 15 robberies, but the remaining four occurred in DuPage County. That county is still continuing its investigation, police said. WGN is reporting that Logsdon executed the robberies to support his cocaine and crack habit. The news outlet attributed the information to an unknown source. A New Year’s Day baby boy - Samson Chambers was born to Chicago residents Donald and Sheryl Chambers at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, 2650 Ridge Ave., on Jan. 1, 2013, at 12:41 a.m. The boy came in at 8-pounds, 3-ounces and 20-inches. “I wanted [Samson] to be born on Christmas day and my husband wanted him to be born on New Year’s Day,” Sheryl Chambers said. “My husband got his wish.” This is the fifth child for the Chambers family. The mother said she now has three girls and two boys. “Honestly, for me, I think it’s a normal thing. It was a regular day for me,” Chambers said. “We gave him the name Samson [which is] from the bible. The name means ‘being strong.’” Chambers added that she had family at the hospital …

From the community ~ In preparation for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Weinstein Funeral Home and Piser Funeral Services sponsored a Geniza ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie on Aug. 22. A Geniza is a Jewish ritual in which used books, clothing and other items are donated by members of the community and buried in a sacred place to benefit both the community and future generations. An estimated three tons of donated items were placed inside caskets and buried in plots donated by Memorial Park Cemetery. The children of Keshet participated in the ritual with the burial of the donated items. All items for the Geniza were collected by Weinstein Funeral Home.
