More than a dozen firefighters were on scene as they put out a two story fire near the intersection of Church Street and Crawford Avenue on Wednesday around 4:45 p.m.
Johnson Shino walked into Anuyu Hair Studio, 4015 Church St., expecting to get a haircut. Instead, he saw a lot of smoke and a whole lot of firefighters. "There was no 'boom,'" Shino said making a gesture with his hands. "Only smoke. It was very quiet." At about 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, smoke from a first floor business caused an entire building to be shutdown and evacuated. Windows of a second floor apartment unit were busted out and the smell of smoke was faint in the air. An office next to the hair salon showcased wet carpet from the water used to put out the blaze above. There were at least four firetrucks on scene. The poodles featured this week are truly a Cinderella story, and Chicago Canine Rescue is their Fairy Godmother! You may remember seeing a sad news story at the end of November about a hoarder's home burning. Inside the burning home were many dogs. Tragically, lives were lost. However, thanks to the heroic efforts of some great people, many were saved! Five of those poodles were lucky enough to find their way into the loving arms of CCR. There they were cleaned up and groomed, and they look like different dogs now! CCR is in the process of getting their medical care up to date. They are vaccinated and dewormed and microchipped, are heartworm tested and on preventatives, and they are getting much-needed dental care and spay/neuters. …

A fire at a senior living residence on Golf Road is still being investigated.
An elderly man was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition with burns Friday afternoon, then transferred to Loyola Medical Center's Burn Unit. He was injured in a fire in his apartment on the eighth floor at The Park, a senior living home at 8975 W. Golf Road, Niles. Niles Fire Department Chief Steve Borkowski said paramedics checked out seven other people, all employees of The Park, on the scene, but they declined to go to the hospital. All had gone into the apartment to try to help bring the situation under control. Paramedics checked them for smoke inhalation, Borkowski indicated. No one was hurt at the fire that burned the Wilson Lawn and Landscape garage on Pfingsten Rd., according to the fire department.
Smoke was still billowing at 7:30 p.m. from the Wilson Lawn and Landscape garage at 2500 Pfingsten Rd. in Northbrook, though the fire had been put out. No one was hurt in the large fire that the department responded to at 5:18 p.m. and took about an hour to put out, according to Northbrook Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Richards, who was still on the scene as firefighters continued spraying the smoking structure. Driver cited for failure to yield while turning into a gas station.
Updated 5:50 a.m. on June 28. In the original version of this story, five people were reported to be transported to area hospitals, but their conditions were unknown. Rollover, entrapment reported.
There was a traffic collision at Oakton Street and Elmhurst Road, reported as a rollover with entrapment, according to an alert issued by the Current Incident Notifications Service (CINS) at 3:30 p.m. Elk Grove Township and Des Plaines fire departments responded to the scene with multiple pieces of equipment. Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook and Prospect Heights authorities worked together to quell the incident.
A garage fire in the 1700 block of Monterey Drive Thursday resulted in $250,000 worth of damages, according to the Glenview Fire Department. Fire crews from Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook and Prospect Heights worked to put out the structure fire. This is the third fire in seven days the Glenview Fire Department has worked to put out. Earlier: Big Condo Fire Draws Many Fire Departments "The home was found unoccpued with little extension fo the fire into the living areas," according to a press release from Glenview authorities. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

A dry cleaners in the 3000 block of Glenview Road endured a structure fire late Friday afternoon, according to a statement from the Glenview Fire Department. Grace Cleaners, 3218 Glenview Rd., endured extensive interior damage, while adjoining commercial units sustaining minimal damage. No one was injured during the incident. "The fire was initially reported by an employee working at the dry cleaners. On arrival, crews encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions." according to the press release. Fire crews from Glenview, Morton Grove and Niles helped bring the incident under control. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. Two employees got out and no one was hurt.
Two Rosati's employees got out safely after a kitchen fire erupted at the pizza restaurant Thursday afternoon, and no one was hurt, police and firefighters at the scene said. Undersized hydrants and poor water pressure delay fire extinguishment in weekend blaze.
A 52-year-old Glenview woman suffered burns and smoke inhalation after she fell asleep while smoking cigarettes in the bedroom of her mobile home Friday afternoon, fire officials said. The woman woke up to find the rear half of her Sunset Park mobile home, 41 South Branch, on fire, Glenview Fire Chief Wayne Globerger told Patch. A nearby neighbor had called 911, and fire department units found heavy fire and smoke when they arrived around 2:25 p.m., according to fire reports.
