Shoppers at Golf Mill recently had to duck to avoid cars in the parking lot, but a little rain helped goose the traffic along. Watch the video to see what really happened.
Golf Mill Shopping Center has long been a draw for shoppers in Niles, Morton Grove, Park Ridge, Des Plaines and Glenview. Recently, though, rain and the resultant puddles have been attracting visitors of the most fowl kind. But, everyone has to get their shopping done for Easter, Passover and other rites of spring.

Golf Mill Shopping Center is holding two drawings: for a bracelet from Michael Hill Jewelers and for dinner for two from Ginza Steak and Sushi. Shoppers can also get photos taken in front of the Larger Than Love display.
If a giant were to wander into Golf Mill Shopping Center this weekend, he'd find a bouquet sized just right for his Valentine giantess. Artist Mahir Naoia, owner of the Charcoal Art shop in the mall, constructed a 12-foot high "Larger than Love" display of Valentine roses and a guitar on a 16-foot long stage. Shoppers can get a 5" x 7" photo taken of themselves in front of the display by Nablus Photography for $8 on Feb. 9, 10 and 14. There are also two drawings to enter. The grand opening will take place Friday. The buffet has lobster, crab, steak, noodle dishes, chicken and vegetarian entrees, as well as desserts.
The grand opening of Ginza Steak, Seafood & Sushi Buffet at Golf Mill Shopping Center will take place Friday, the mall announced. Earlier: Ginza Steak, Seafood & Sushi to Open at Golf Mill Manager David Kuo said the buffet will offer more than 100 items, including seafood, sushi, stir fry, lobster, crab, chicken, vegetarian and noodle dishes, as well as the grill area. The owners invested more than $1 million in remodeling and decorating the space, he added. One year, the Niles Fire Department won. Another, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church took home the honors. This year, the Niles Police Department got the glory of winning Golf Mill Shopping Center's "Festival of Trees" food drive by collecting the greatest number of donations to the holiday food drive--4,423. "I am very excited that we won the contest and want to thank all of those that supported the Police Department," said Niles Police Chief Dean Strzelecki. Black Friday at Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles will get going at 8 p.m. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day 2012, with Sears being the first to open. Target follows an hour later, and Kohl's and The Children's Place start doing business at midnight. On Saturday, Santa Claus continued his tradition of arriving at Golf Mill Shopping Center via firetruck, just in time for the Christmas season. To celebrate the joyful arrival, kids and their families gathered to see him coming on the impressive red sleigh, non-reindeerly though it may be, and wave to the crowd. Earlier: Santa set to arrive Once he disembarked and greeted the crowd, they paraded through the mall, led by doggie reindeer from Wright Way Animal Rescue in Niles. Children who showed up with their families got to march in the parade and show off the elf hats they received, along with goody bags and treats. Ready for some holiday excitement, kids of all ages? Santa will arrive on a shiny red firetruck at Golf Mill Shopping Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. After stepping off near Entrance #8, the jolly elf will parade inside, then magically light up 11 decorated trees. That will kick off this year’s Festival of Trees giving program. The missing youth got separated from his mother at Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles. After neither security nor police found him, police issued a statewide alert.
On Saturday just after 6:30 p.m., a Prospect Heights woman reported that her autistic 13-year-old son walked away from her while they were at Golf Mill Shopping Center, and they became separated and she could not find him, according to police. Golf Mill security instituted a Code Adam alert, which mobilizes the mall's security and staff for finding missing children or disabled adults. Earlier: Golf Mill Locks Down for Lost Kids The youth was not located, and when police responded, they searched the mall the the surrounding area, but did not find him, according to the report. With a ribbon cutting Friday by the Niles Chamber of Commerce and a grand opening Saturday, the new Ross Dress for Less store at Golf Mill Shopping Center is open for business. "We're excited to have our second location in Niles," said Fred Shuey, regional vice president for Ross, who was at the store for its soft opening Friday. The first Niles store, at Pointe Plaza on Touhy just north of Village Crossing Shopping Center, opened about a year ago.
