Head Start Program Grows At Local School
Kids Academy develops its Head Start classes this fall, in addition to the preschool and daycare programs they have offered since 1978.
Kids Academy began with just one classroom. Director Azar Khounani not only taught the class but served as the school's director, administrative assistant and janitor. Two years later demand was such that a second classroom and teacher were added. This year marked another leap: Kids Academy opened its doors to Head Start, federal education program for low-income children and their families. "It's my dream, my passion," said Khounani. "It is my firm belief that one day it will be these children giving back." Khounani's Story For Khounani, Head Start is a continuation of a lifelong pursuit for equal rights. Investing in Head Start programs is smart policy for the short- and long-term. It puts money into the economy which will be spent, helps save and create jobs and gives low-income children like the Head Start students at our local Kids Academy better opportunities to succeed as they grow older. I'm so glad we have this school in our village to provide this desperately needed education!   more ›
