Schakowsky, Schneider Urge Sequester Action

Schneider pleads for cooperation while Schakowsky warns of consequences of pending spending cuts.

With automatic spending cuts totaling $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years set to go into effect Friday, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) took to the floor of the House of Representatives Tuesday to urge action. Schakowsky warned of a reduction of military preparedness, less ability for small businesses to find loans, a reduction of food inspectors, less airport security because of layoffs at the Transportation Safety Administration and a drop in money for mental health services. “We’ve all been talking about the need for more mental health services around this whole issue of gun violence and it’s predicted about 373,000 adults and children who need mental health services won’t find them,” Schakowsky …

Update: Schakowsky Blasts Health Care Vote

Congresswoman likes the law as it is while Dold thinks change is necessary.

(Update, 6:40 p.m.) Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) criticized what she called the 33rd effort of the House Republican majority to repeal all or part of the Affordable Care Act after today’s vote to eliminate the law. She thinks the time should be devoted to job creation. “Though Republicans took control of the House with the promise that they will focus on jobs, they have wasted more than 43 hours of floor time on legislation to repeal Obamacare,” Schakowsky said. Schakowsky likes the health care law as it is. She praises how it has already helped millions of Americans by eliminating caps on their insurance, allowing children under 16 to remain on their parents’ policies and insuring care for youngsters with pre-existing conditions. “I …

Dold Shares Ideas to Help Economy

Congressman visits with residents in Glenview and Lake Forest to hear their ideas about what the local economy needs.

Combining his experience as a small business owner and as a member of the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) introduced his jobs task force Jan. 31, explaining to people in the Tenth Congressional District his ideas to improve the economy.  With events in Glenview, Lake Forest and Libertyville, Dold took the time to listen to business owners and workers alike while introducing the co chairs of his task force -- Jack Heyden of Highland Park and Marvin Bembry of Lake Villa, a director of government affairs at Abbot Laboratories.  “Everyone on both sides of the aisle wants to talk about jobs and the economy," Dold told a town hall gathering of approximately 150 workers and management at Colbert Packaging in …

At least Obama tasked Immelt and that task force to figure out plans to KEEP jobs in America and make more jobs here. Dold hired the lobbyist Eric Burgeson as his chief of staff. If you look him up it turns out Burgeson was the lobbyist for the Chamber of Commerce IN CHINA. How do you say "outsourcing" in Mandarin? I bet Dold's taxpayer-salaried chief of staff knows. If you think Obama and Dold …   more ›
