Should Villages Help Those In Need? Park Ridge, Niles, Morton Grove Differ
Morton Grove, Niles and Maine Township provide some funding and services to people who need food, counseling, senior services and similar. Park Ridge, though, depends on non-profits to direct people to resources.
In Park Ridge, a variety of social service agencies, such as the Center of Concern, provide help to people who may be disabled, seriously ill, experiencing financial hardship or needing services to get back to stability. But in Niles, Morton Grove, Maine Township, Des Plaines and elsewhere, government provides some funding for those functions, according to the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate. In Niles, for example, Niles Family Services is a department of village government and receives funding from the village. Headed by Seth Knobel, its full- and part-time counselors offer counseling, maintain a food pantry and assist people who have emergency needs. Its services are limited to village residents.
