Maine South Soccer Team Heads to Sectional Semi-Finals

The team will take on Whitney Young at New Trier High School tomorrow at 5 p.m.

  The Maine South Girls Soccer Team will take on Wilmette’s Loyola Academy tomorrow in the New Trier Sectional semi-finals game. Maine South beat Chicago’s Whitney Young High School in the regional finals to advance to the next level in the tournament. Tomorrow's game is set for 5 p.m. at New Trier High School. The winner head to the sectional championships on Friday, May 24. The Girls Soccer state finals are set for June 1 at North Central College in Naperville. 

Park Ridge Athlete Finishes Strong at State Finals

Maine South's Emily Leonard took 28th place in the 3,200-Meter Run.

  Maine South High School’s Emily Leonard had a strong showing at the Girls Track & Field state finals this weekend, according to the Illinois High School Association’s website. Leonard took 28th place in the 3,200-Meter Run with a time of 11:24.68 The winner in the event was Madeline Perez of Glenbard West with a time of 10:22.29. Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Notre Dame Boys' Basketball Plays in Semi-Finals Tonight

The Niles school will play New Trier for the chance to advance to the sectional championships.

  Notre Dame College Prep is playing in the boys’ basketball sectional semi-finals game tonight against Winnetka’s New Trier at 7:30 p.m. The game takes place at Glenbrook North High school in Northbrook. Notre Dame advanced the to semi-finals after beating out Chicago’s Foreman in the regional finals game. Tonight’s game was pushed back by one day due to Tuesday’s snowstorm. If Notre Dame wins, they will take on Niles North in the sectional championship tomorrow at Glenbrook North High School at 7:30 p.m.  Watch highlights from the Niles North/Maine South game.

Four Niles-Area High School Basketball Teams Advance in State Tournament

Maine West, Niles West, Niles North and Notre Dame will all compete in a Regional Finals game tonight.

  Niles-area boys’ basketball teams are coming out on top in the 2013 IHSA basketball tournament. Both Maine South and Niles West advanced to their section’s Regional Finals tonight, after coming out on top in the Regional Semi-Finals game. Maine South beat out Lincoln Park High School 46-26, and Niles West beat Glenbrook North with a score of 53-51. The two will go head-to-head tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Maine South High School. Niles North High School also advanced to the section’s Regional Finals game against Wilmette’s Loyola Academy tonight at 7:30 p.m. Niles North beat Chicago’s Taft High School 65-53 in their Regional Semi-Finals game. Notre Dame High School will take on Chicago’s Foreman High School in the team’s Regional Finals game…

Maine South Girls' Basketball Team Advances to Sectional Finals

The team made the finals after beat Resurrection 54-37.

  The Maine South girls' basketball team made the sectional finals after beating Resurrection 54-37, the Niles Herald-Spectator reports. The Hawks big scorers were Jacqui Grant, Regan Charmichael and Mackenzie Duffy, the newspaper reports.  Maine South will take on Evanston Township Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Loyola Academy in Wilmette.

Maine East, South Swimmers and Divers Qualify for State Finals

The men will compete in the IHSA state meet Feb. 22-23.

  Several Niles/Morton Grove area swimmers and divers are heading to the state meet next weekend, according to the Illinois High School Association. The following athletes qualified in the events listed: 50-yard freestyle: 200-yard freestyle relay: 400-yard freestyle relay: Diving: The state finals will be held Feb. 22 and 23 at New Trier High School in Winnetka.

Maine South's Haleigh Sir to Compete in Gymnastics State Finals

The senior gymnast will compete in the floor exercise competition this weekend.

  Congratulations to Maine South High School's Haleigh Sir. The senior gymnast has qualified for the state finals. Sir qualified for the state meet at Feb. 4’s sectional at Fremd High School, placing 29th in the floor exercise, according to the Illinois State Gymnastics Stats website. She will compete in the floor exercise at the state meet on Feb. 15 and 16 at Palatine High School.

Five Niles-Area Wrestlers Qualify for State Finals

The athletes qualified for state at a sectional tournament at Maine East High School on Feb. 9.

  Congratulations to the five Niles-area wrestlers qualified for the state tournament this weekend at Maine East High School, according to IHSA results.  The athletes will now compete at the state wrestling tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

Maine East Wrestlers to Compete at Schaumburg Saturday

The team will take on Addison Trail, Conant, Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Park, Maine West, Schaumburg and Streamwood.

  The Maine East High School wrestling squad will compete in a very important meet at Schaumburg on Saturday, Feb. 2. The top three individuals will advance into sectionals at Maine East, and the team champion will head to the Lake Park dual-team sectional, the Daily Herald reports. The high school will face off against Addison Trail, Conant, Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Park, Maine West, Schaumburg and Streamwood. The state individual tournament will be held Feb. 14-16 in Champaign, while the dual-team state tournament is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Bloomington.  The Feb. 2 meet starts at 9 a.m.
