Patch Flash: IL Senate Says Yes to Gay Marriage Bill

Same-sex marriage bill proceeds to the House for a vote.

Illinois gay and lesbian couples received a Valentine’s Day gift from the Illinois Senate. The Democrat-led Senate passed legislation, in a 34-21-2 vote, this afternoon that would allow same-sex marriages in Illinois, according to Huffington Post. The gay marriage bill now goes to the House. If it is signed into law, marriage officially would be changed in state law from an act between a man and a woman to two people. The legislation says nothing in the proposed law would force a religious denomination or minster to “solemnize any marriage,” according to the Chicago Tribune.   If the bill is also approved by the state House of Representatives, Illinois will join Washington, D.C. and nine other U.S. marriage equality states, according to …

Niles Voters Face Hotly Contested Races

Schakowsky and Pollak join slew of candidates awaiting verdict from residents heading to cast ballots.

Here's the good news: after today, the robocalls will finally end. Oh yes, there's more good news--you can decide the future of the county, the state and the nation by voting today. Polling stations will be open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. To learn of their locations, simply input your address at the Voter Information page of Cook County Clerk David Orr's website. You'll also be able to see a sample ballot. Have more questions? The clerk's website has a helpful section, which addresses all types of voter concerns, from instructions on how to send in an absentee ballots to securing assistance for voters with disabilities.
