Trooper James Sauter was killed March 28 at I-294 and Willow Road
An Illinois State Police trooper from Vernon Hills was the victim of a fatal car crash early Friday morning. James Sauter was on duty in his squad car when his vehicle was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer at I-294 southbound at Willow Road. Man was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault against 14-year-old girl.
At Niles police roll call Thursday, Sgt. Robert Tornabene advised officers that Thomas Underwood, convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault against a minor, is moving to Niles. Underwood plans to live with a relative at 8028 N. Milwaukee Ave., Tornabene said. He may have chosen the location on the commercial street because sex offenders are prohibited from living near schools, he added. State law forbids convicted sex offenders from coming within 500 feet of a school, school grounds or school bus stop without notifying school officials.
