Want to apply for the East Maine Elementary School District 63 board? One seat is open, as John Jekot, who was elected a Village of Niles trustee, is required to step down from the school board.
John Jekot, a 14-year member of the East Maine School District 63 board, is moving on. He won the April 9 election for village of Niles trustee, and was sworn in to the village's board last week. The Illinois Attorney General's office does not permit an individual to serve on a school board and a village board at the same time, he said. As his seat becomes vacant, the district is accepting applications from individuals interested in the position, and will appoint a board member at its June 3 special meeting. That person will serve until the April 2015 election. Andrew Przybylo, George Alpogianis, John Jekot and Danette Matyas called a press conference Monday at White Eagle banquets to announce they are running as a slate in Niles in the April election. They have formed the New Niles Party 2013. Przybylo, a current Niles trustee, will run for Niles mayor, while the others will run for trustee positions. The district's computer system suffered a virus that shut it down in August.
Judy Satkiewicz, the technology director in East Maine Elementary District 63, said that security upgrades recommended after a virus shut down the district’s computer network in late August will cost $46,000. She can find the money by putting off some purchases that were scheduled for this year until next year. Satkiewicz shared the information with the District 63 school board at the Oct. 5 meeting as part of a report on the activities of the technology department. I find it appalling Mr. Jekot that you used the membership list of the St john Brebeuf Holy Name Mens Club to your advantage to send out political mailings. I feel this is a violation of the trust that the members have given to you and possibly the breech of confidentiality. therefore you and your party have lost my vote.   more ›
