Mayor Creating Fact-Finding Committee

Morton Grove Mayor Dan Staackmann said he's looking for three residents to serve on a committee to investigate whether a waster transfer station or recycling center would pose threats to health and safety.

At a recent Morton Grove village board meeting, Mayor Dan Staackmann announced plans to create a fact-finding committee to evaluate whether a waste transfer or recycling station would impact the safety, property and/or health of residents. According to a statement prepared by the village office, Staackmann said if the committee finds a negative impact on the village, he will not endorse such a project nor will he allow any required municipal code changes. Staackmann has signed up three people on the committee and is looking for three more. The three already on board are Director of Public Works Andy DeMonte, Sanitarian Bonnie Burnett and Traffic and Safety Commissioner Lee Tamraz. The target date to report findings is July 31. New Twist in Morton Grove Controversy Occurs

Lakeshore Waste Services originally wanted to open a garbage transfer station, then agreed to a recycling facility. Now, it has merged with a larger recycling company and the Morton Grove site's future is unclear.

A controversial Morton Grove waste and recycling company, Lakeshore Waste Services, has merged with another Chicagoland recycling company, Recycling Services, Inc., throwing the future of Lakeshore's Morton Grove location into doubt. Mayor Dan Staackmann brought up the subject at a village board meeting Monday, saying he and village administrator Ryan Horne had met with Lakeshore Waste Services president Josh Connell Friday to discuss the possible scenarios for the village of Morton Grove. The newly-merged company is called Lakeshore Recycling Systems, according to recyclingtoday.com.  Last summer, Lakeshore Waste Services' plan to put a waste transfer station at its Morton Grove site on Oakton east of Lehigh drew dozens of people to a …

Plans Dropped for Morton Grove Waste Transfer Station

Lakeshore Waste Services announced it will not pursue an application for a waste transfer station, but may look at an alternate use for its property in Morton Grove.

The Village of Morton Grove made public the following press release, issued by  Lakeshore Waste Services early Friday evening: "Lakeshore Waste Services has informed the Village of Morton Grove that it will not pursue previously discussed plans to develop a waste transfer station on property adjacent to its corporate headquarters in the community. “'We continue to believe that a waste transfer station would be a compatible and acceptable land use in Morton Grove, given the proposed industrial park location and the strict environmental regulations that would govern its operations,' said Josh Connell, president of Lakeshore Waste Services. He noted that waste transfer stations are located near residential areas in communities throughout …

If the situation in Chicago shows anything, the unions more than teachers are putting money, control and dues above the welfare of the children. We're reading that D67 unions won't let their teachers volunteer their own time to help the kids? I think most teachers are dedicated and put the kids first, its the weak school boards and administrators at fault for bending to union demands. A well …   more ›

Transfer Station to be Addressed Tonight at Village Meeting

Potential project has met with strong opposition from residents, village administrator will address the issue tonight at 7 p.m. at the village meeting.

Resident opposition has been squared strongly against a transfer station proposed by Lakeshore Waste Services at 6132 W. Oakston St. near Lehigh.  Village Administrator Ryan Horne will be presenting information tonight at the Village of Morton Grove board of trustees meeting, to address citizen concerns and to clear up what he says is misinformation about the proposal.  In a recent article on the subject published by Niles-Morton Grove Patch, there were more than 50 comments made by readers.   Catherine Peters commented: "Penny wise and pound foolish, in my humble opinion. The proposal would gain each MG resident between $3 to $10 per year by the estimates...weigh that against the decrease in property values and, more importantly, the …

Morton Grove Transfer Station Discussion Moves Forward

Residents are concerned about increased pollution and health hazards as an overbearing cost of the proposition, village administrator plans to address the issue at the Aug. 13 board meeting.

Lakeshore Waste Services has expressed interest in building a transfer station at its corporate headquarters located at 6132 W. Oakton St. near the intersection of Lehigh Ave. in the village's industrial park. Concerned residents, meanwhile, are teaming up to oppose the idea, based on concerns over health hazards, increased pollution and the negative effect such a project could have on property values in the village.  A tranfer station is a temporary processing site where waste is brought in by smaller trucks and held there until it is tranferred by larger vehicles, to landfills. "This is a more economical method of transporting waste," according to Peter Falcone, assistant to the village administrator.   Residents aware of the potential…
