Two students who attend Marquette University traveled 16 hours by van to volunteer in reconstruction efforts in the Gulf region.

Marquette Students Participate In Service Trip Over Winter Break Two Marquette University students from Niles traveled with 92 other students 16 hours by van to New Orleans over winter break with the Marquette MARDI GRAS program. Marquette University is in Milwaukee, Wisc. MARDI GRAS, which stands for Making A Real Difference in the Gulf Region and Areas Surrounding, is a student-run organization at Marquette, created in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf region. MARDI GRAS aims to form meaningful relationships within the community of New Orleans, rebuild homes and neighborhoods and raise awareness about the needs of the post-Katrina Gulf region. Therese Casey of Niles runs cross country, volunteers and serves on Student Council. Lately, she's happy that a job-shadowing experience showed her she loved physical therapy, and that she got accepted into a six-year program to earn a doctorate in it. Therese Casey ○ Whiz Kid's Age: 18 ○ Whiz Kid's School: Resurrection High School, Chicago. Therese attended St. John Brebeuf School in Niles for elementary school. ○ Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Therese took a job-shadowing program in business and discovered it wasn't for her.
