Mexican Restaurant Opens In Morton Grove

Las Fuentes will have its grand opening in a couple of weeks, but it's open for business now. It has filled the space on Waukegan Road formerly occupied by Crazy Jaws.

  Daniel Albarran is hoping Morton Grove-area residents will come in and try what he describes as traditional Mexican cuisine at Las Fuentes' new location at 9001 N. Waukegan Road, in the space formerly occupied by Crazy Jaws. It's the fourth Las Fuentes restaurant opened by his family. His father Jorge started the original eatery at 2558 N. Halsted in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood 32 years ago. They opened a second location in Stickney 12 years ago and in Alsip last year. "We have tacos, burritos and authentic dishes like cochinita pibil and chiles nogada on the menu," he said. "The portions are big--you'll be full by the time you're done with it." I went to the Mroton Grove location yesterday for lunch. The food was surperb. The chimichurri sauce was perfectly balanced. The service was great!I will be returning soon!   more ›

Ginza Steak & Sushi To Open At Golf Mill

It's hiring now for servers, hostesses and bartenders. Ginza will have an enormous buffet and full bar that will stay open late, general manager says.

  The owners of Ginza Steak and Sushi Buffet, which is set to open right after New Year's, are investing $1 million in remodeling and decorating the restaurant, said General Manager David Kuo. "It will have a beautiful bar area and a huge buffet table with more than 100 items," Kuo said. "There will be lots of seafood, sushi, stir fry, grill and dessert." There will also be lobster and crab legs, as well as chicken dishes, noodle dishes and vegetarian dishes. Kuo said the food would be from various Asian culinary traditions, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean.  Earlier: La Tavola opens in Niles  He expects the price to be $20 for adults, and said the children's price has not yet been set. New Niles Italian Restaurant Opens

La Tavola has its ribbon-cutting Wednesday, officially opens Thursday.

  An Italian restaurant opened Thursday in the space formerly occupied by Rossini's and Kalyva.  Owners Carlos Montiel, Mario Montiel and Mark Kroh were on hand for the ribbon cutting with the Niles Chamber of Commerce. Restaurateur Kicks It Up a Notch

Morton Grove's Mahesh Sharma opened a family-inspired Indian restaurant in September.

This week's Patch Portraits series also features a rocker who builds a home for budding musicians in Wilmette and a women honoring Polish culture in Des Plaines. "I lived in Morton Grove for a long period of time and I couldn't find any nicer restaurants in the neighborhood," said Mahesh Sharma as he sat at a table in his new restaurant, Tava. The Indian restaurant, at 7172 Dempster St., opened in September. He said that a lack of finer dining options in Morton Grove was a major reason Sharma chose to open the type of restaurant he did.
