Niles Parks Appoints Julie Genualdi To Board

Commissioners name her to fill the slot vacated by Chuck Barbaglia, who moved out of state.

  Impressed with her involvement in the community, the Niles Park District Board last week appointed Julie Genualdi as a commissioner. She succeeds Chuck Barbaglia, who moved out of state to be with family members.  "She's involved in the community, she's got kids in park district programs and kids at St. John Brebeuf School," said Ray Czarnik, park board president. "It's good to have another woman on the board. "We decided it's great to have someone with a family come in." He noted she has also been involved with the Niles Sister Cities program. In addition to Barbaglia's departure, two other commissioners, Bill Terpinas and Elaine Heinen, have been away from the park district because each had been hospitalized. Terpinas has returned, …

Longtime Official Resigns From Park District

Chuck Barbaglia, who has given decades of public service to the Niles area, stepped down from the Niles Park District board Tuesday.

  Chuck Barbaglia, who has a long record of public service in the Niles area, resigned from the Niles Park District board at its meeting Tuesday, according to Ray Czarnik, park board president. Czarnik heralded Barbaglia for serving on the park district board since 1997, and for many years of public service in other capacities before that. Charyl Szydloski, Barbaglia's daughter, provided a partial list of Barbaglia's public service:  Barbaglia has sold his home in Niles, after the passing of his wife about a year ago, and plans to move to Texas in September to live near his daughter, Czarnik said. I first met Chuck at the time he, Bill Terpinas and I met and decided to run together for the Park District Board in 1999. We were all taking a chance on each other and whether we could really "save" the Park District from the financial trouble it was in at the time.
