How Will Rosemont Mall Affect Niles?

With a large mall opening in Rosemont in a few months, candidates running for Niles mayor size up the situation. Niles' Golf MIll is probably the closest mall--will tax revenue diminish, putting a burden on Niles taxpayers?

Developers of Fashion Outlets of Chicago, a very upscale outlet mall under construction in Rosemont, rocked the Chicago area this week with news of the high-end tenants they have signed. They include anchors of outlet stores of Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue. Individual tenants include Prada, Coach, Perry Ellis, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Tory Burch, Halston and Cole Haan.  Earlier: Huge Upscale Mall Coming To Rosemont The considerable size and amenities of the mall--530,000 of enclosed space on two levels, with fine dining restaurants and art installations--also surprised many.  With Niles' Golf Mill Shopping Center probably the closest mall to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, some might worry FOC would lure shoppers…

Mr.Hanusiak again lacks real retail knowledge of the industry, his comment high end mall is way off base! The Fashion Outlets of Chicago store line up has over 50 stores or half the mall that are discount or value oriented, ie: Famous Footwear, Areopostale, Bath N Body. The same stores that would succeed at Golf Mill. This outlet center received a very generous financial incentive package from …   more ›

Keeping Niles a Thriving Town For Business

Meet Ross Klicker, Niles' new economic development coordinator. He's charged with keeping businesses happy and profitable, which helps to keep residents' taxes low. He talks about a new app and website and bringing in Millennium Park's designer.

Niles is known as a thriving business community, but that doesn't just happen. Ross Klicker, who started Dec. 17 as the village's Economic Development Marketing Coordinator, will be working to bring in new businesses and keep existing businesses happy.  But it doesn't stop there. With a recent master's degree in community development, Klicker, 42, says it takes lots of factors, including social, economic and politcal capital, to make a community thrive. He also talked about new businesses planning to open, a new website and mobile app for Niles and the possibility of bringing in the designer of Millennium Park.  Patch.com sat down with him to chat. Businesses Deserve Fair, Consistent Rules

A Letter to the Editor. I want systemized, open, fair and equal rules about changing the tax status for businesses already here in Niles. Businesses need a level playing field.

The following Letter to the Editor states the opinions of the author. Patch is providing a platform for writers to express their views.     THE “ANTI-BUSINESS” HOAX Just as we thought we were finished with a contentious national election, we are suddenly thrust into a contentious local election. Argumentive words can be easily thrown around and certainly have been at public meetings by people who should know better. Accusations that trustees are “anti-business” because they want to establish specific procedures for changing tax status are false and serve no useful purpose. Businesses want and deserve a level playing field. It provides an equal opportunity for those who are willing to risk it. My wife and I were excited about the idea of …

Niles Cuts Business Vacancies, Brightens Outlook

Mayor Robert Callero said sales tax revenues for the village are up. He spoke during the Niles Chamber of Commerce's Mayoral Address Luncheon Thursday.

After bleakly outlining how the economy remains sluggish nationally, Mayor Robert Callero painted a sunnier picture of how business and retail sales are doing in Niles. The mayor spoke at the Niles Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Annual Mayoral Address Luncheon Thursday at Chateau Ritz. After he spoke, one business person, a corporate property manager, said she was pleased with Niles' efforts.  Niles economy doing better than national picture "The recession ended in June 2009, but prosperity has not returned," Callero said. "People don’t spend after watching their wealth in home values and retirement savings vanish."  Nevertheless, retail sales revenues in the village increased 4.9 percent in 2010 and 4.6 percent in 2011, he said, …
