Northwestern Brings Home Gator Bowl Win

The Wildcats dominated Mississippi State 34-20 at the 2013 TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl.

Northwestern University’s football team capitalized on an early lead to defeat Mississippi State in the 2013 Gator Bowl on Tuesday.  The Wildcats made four interceptions during the 34-20 victory in Jacksonville, FL, leaving the team with a 10-3 record over the season, according to the university’s website. That’s the team’s first double-digit win season since the 1995 Big Ten Championship Team, and it’s also Coach Pat Fitzgerald’s 50th win at Northwestern. Northwestern senior Jared Carpenter, who made 10 tackles and a late-game interception, was named the 2013 Gator Bowl MVP, the university reports.  Like Niles-Morton Grove Patch on Facebook

Medical Examiner: NU Student Died of Accidental Drowning

A representative of the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told Patch that Maddula's death was ruled to be an accident. Examiners say the cause was drowning.

One day after police found the body of 18-year-old Northwestern sophomore Harsha Maddula in the waters of Wilmette Harbor, officials ruled his death an accident.  The cause of death was ruled to be drowning, a representative of the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told Patch Friday.  Maddula, of New Hyde Park, NY, was last seen alive on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 12:30 a.m., walking home from a party he attended off campus.  Police traced his cell phone signal and determined that it transmitted its last signal in the early morning on Saturday near a tower in Wilmette Harbor. More than 20 local law enforcement agencies and fire departments assisted Northwestern University Police in a search of the harbor water and the land on Wednesday, …

Kellogg Business School Ranks Top Super Bowl Ads

Advertisers 'played it safe' this year, professor says.

That's at least partly the message in the ranking of best and worst Super Bowl ads by Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. This is the eighth year the school's faculty and students have ranked the most anticipated ads of the year. "What's notable about this year versus others is that advertisers played it safe. As a result, we saw fewer standouts, but we also didn't see as many costly mistakes," Clinical Professor of Marketing Tim Calkins said in an article about the ranking on the school's website. Here's the school's list of the top and bottom four. Let us know in our polls below if you agree with the choices. The…

The top Super Bowl ad had to be the Kia Sandman/Dream sequence. Nice, funny story line, with the product clearly identified and the "hero" of the story.   more ›
