Morton Grove Champion reporter Nick Katz passed away last week, the newspaper reports.
Longtime Pioneer Press reporter Nick Katz has passed away, the Morton Grove Champion reports. At Monday's Morton Grove village board meeting, outgoing Mayor Dan Staackmann heralded Katz, calling him a dedicated journalist. "I sincerely appreciate what he did for journalism," Staackmann said. "People of this caliber, for what they get paid for what they're expected to do, it's just not there like it used to be." Katz had been with the newspaper since 1982, and most recently covered the village of Morton Grove. He died in his sleep at his Evanston home last week. There will be no funeral services or wake, the newspaper reports. Donations can be made in his name to the American Civil Liberties Union or the Chicago Blues Foundation.
