Patrick Liscio and Felicia Phan advanced to the state expo after winning the district science and engineering fair.
Niles West High School seniors Felicia Phan and Patrick Liscio will compete at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Expo this spring, the Niles West News reports. The students advanced to the state expo after winning the district science and engineering fair last weekend. Senior Ryan Cyriac also did well at last weekend’s fair, taking best in category for Health Science. The state event will be held May 3-4 at University of Illinois in Urbana, the paper reports.
Patrick Liscio was one of 400 students nationwide to be named a semi-finalist.
A Niles West High School student is one of 400 chosen across the country to be a semi-finalist in the 2013 U.S. Physics Olympiad. Senior Patrick Liscio from Skokie is one of the semi-finalists, announced Friday. Lisico qualified for the semi-finals by scoring high enough on the F=ma exam last month. Another test will be given to the students in March, and the students with the highest score are sent to a training camp in May, the Niles West High School Newspaper reports. Only five students are chosen from the camp to be a part of the 2013 Physics Olympiad team. Liscio said his teacher Martha Lietz has given him the most support thorough this process. He is considering attending MIT next year, the newspaper reports.
