Homes Worth 42% More If Near Transit In Morton Grove, Niles

A study finds people can commute cheaply to a greater number of jobs if they live near public transit. Niles is considering an express bus called ART, which would take commuters to a train station to go downtown.

  Niles--so close to Chicago, and yet so lacking in a Metra train station or any direct way for commuters to get downtown.  The village and the PACE suburban bus service are considering a high-speed Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) bus to take Niles commuters directly to a train station so they would be able to commute downtown. Such a transit option may also increase Niles home values, suggests a study released by the American Public Transportation Association and the National Association of Realtors.  Morton Grove homeowners who live near the Metra station already are reaping those higher property values. Data in the study reveal that during the last recession, residential property values performed 42 percent better on average if they were …

Take Transportation Survey; Deadline Today

The village of Niles, which is hoping for an express bus to make getting downtown faster, is asking people who live and work in Niles to take the three-minute survey. The deadline is today, Friday Feb. 1.

  Niles has more public transportation than many suburbs. There are Pace bus routes on portions of Dempster, Touhy, Oakton, Howard and Greenwood . However, unlike neighbors Morton Grove and Park Ridge, which have their own Metra stations, Niles has no direct train downtown. The village hopes to get an express bus, called Arterial Rapid Transit service, from Pace, the suburban bus service, someday.  Transportation is also a key part of the Niles 2030 Comprehensive Plan, the document the village adopted about a year ago to plan its development and future.  Because transportation is so important, the village of Niles is asking people who live, work and shop in Niles to take a brief Regional Transportation Authority survey about public …
