Niles Among Highest in Paid-Off Homes

Crain's Chicago Business reports a stunning 47.1 percent of Niles homeowners own their homes outright. Morton Grove dazzles also, with 37.3 percent of homeowners being mortgage-free.

  Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.  According to the Crain's analysis, 8,863 Niles homeowners or 47.1 percent, are mortgage-free. Morton Grove boasts similar numbers with 7,652 homeowners or 37.3 without a home loan. These numbers all well above the Chicagoland average of 26 percent of homeowners being mortgage-free.  If you own a home, are you still paying off your mortgage? Illinois Home Foreclosures Top National Average

See addresses of Morton Grove homes listed in foreclosure on AOL Real Estate.

  Illinois home foreclosure activity is four times the national average, reports Chicago Real Estate Daily. Data reflects nearly 138,000 homes in Illinios were in "foreclosure inventory" at the end of the first quarter, 36 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the story. Niles, Morton Grove Home Sale Prices Drop

Chicago Magazine reports sale prices from 2012 were slightly lower than in 2011.

  Home sale prices in Niles and Morton Grove are slightly down, according to a recent Chicago Magazine article. The article profiled what homes cost in several suburbs and Chicago neighborhoods. The magazine’s data showed the median sale price for a home in Niles in 2012 was $220,000, down 2.2 percent from 2011 and 45 percent since 2006. The median sale price for a Morton Grove home in 2012 was also $220,000, down 6.4 percent since 2011 and 44.3 percent from 2006.  Read the whole report and see what neighboring communities home sales data looks like on Chicago Magazine's website.
