$250 Worth Of Bedding Concealed And Stolen

A woman was stopped after allegedly concealing a comforter on herself. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  Jessica Butler, 23, of Mount Prospect was charged with retail theft Feb. 20 after a security agent for a store at Golf Mill Shopping Center observed her selecting a comforter and curtains worth $250, police said. She concealed the comforter on her person and put the curtains in her purse, according to the report, and left the store without paying for them. Her court date is March 12 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts. Two men charged in theft of water filter Ross W. Anderson, 52, and Richard W. Burton, 63, both of Batavia, were charged with retail theft Feb. 19 when a security agent for a retail store said they concealed a water filter, valve and nozzle, with a combined value of $209.99, and left the store without paying, …

After $662 Theft, Cops Find Suspect Heroin

Man charged after hiding 29 boxes of cigarettes in his clothing. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  Jason Galli, 35, of Park Ridge was charged with retail theft, a Class 3 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, and possession of a narcotic instrument after an incident Feb. 3 just after 6:30 a.m. at a grocery store in the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue. A security agent for the store saw Galli taking cigarette boxes from a display, hiding them under his jacket and then leaving the store without paying, according to police. The agent went to stop Galli, he tried to flee and the agent restrained him until police arrived, the report said. As police searched Galli's clothing, they found 29 boxes of cigarettes, three hypodermic needles, a metal lid containing suspect heroin and 13 plastic bags containing trace …

Rash of Perfume Thefts

In three separate incidents, fragrance bottles are stolen. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Omar Kahled, 30, of Park Ridge, was charged with petite theft on Feb. 2 just after 5 p.m. after a security agent for a retail store at Golf Mill Shopping Center said he concealed a bottle of cologne worth $38 in his jacket, then exited the store without paying, according to police. The agent stopped the offender and recovered the item, police said. Police issued a ticket and said Kahled paid the fine on scene. $45 bottle of perfume stolen On Feb. 2 at 12:50 p.m., a security agent for a retail store at Golf Mill Shopping Center saw a man in his 30s wearing a gray jacket and jeans take a bottle of ladies' perfume valued at $45, conceal it in his clothing and exit the store, according to police. Woman Charged With Theft of 35 Food Items

She scanned only some of items in cart.

Taferney Brooks, 34, of Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft after an incident at a retail store in the 9000 block of Golf Road, Niles, on Thursday. A witness said she saw Brooks, who had multiple quantities of several food items in her shopping cart, scan only one of each item and place the others of the same type in her shopping bag without scanning them. She then left the store without paying for all of the items. The value of the merchandise was $100.72. Bounced Checks Prompt Arrest

Currency Exchange employee recognized man who had earlier presented two bad checks.

Jin Youn, 38, of Vernon Hills was charged with deceptive practice after he presented a check for $950 at Har-Mil Currency Exchange in the 7500 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, on Dec. 20. He tried to cash the check, and filled out a new customer registration card. An employee remembered he had presented checks for $5,900 and $900 at the Oakton-Waukegan Currency Exchange, in the 8000 block of Waukegan Road, Niles, in the days prior. Both of those checks were returned for uncollected funds.  The owner of Har-Mil Currency Exchange called police while Youn was waiting at the cashier window, and police stopped him as he was leaving. Youn pointed out his vehicle with his one-year-old daughter in it, and police transported the baby in a child …

Retail Theft Turns Into Drug Charges

Man had syringes and admitted to heroin use.

  Duane Tryba, 32, of Lyons, Ill. was charged with retail theft, felony by amount, at Wal-Mart on Touhy, Niles, on Dec. 19. Security personnel said he concealed merchandise worth $317.97 in a Wal-Mart bag and exited the store without paying. As he was leaving, he presented an old receipt for other merchandise to the employee who was checking receipts. A security agent asked Tryba to go to the loss prevention office, and Tryba tried to walk away but was stopped by an off-duty police officer employed by Wal-Mart. When Niles police arrived, a search of Tryba's jacked yielded 12 syringes and a spoon containing heroin residue. The offender said he had used heroin that day. A later search at the Niles police station turned up another four bills…
