The village of Morton Grove is working on a Comprehensive Plan, Village Administrator Ryan Horne announced at the Feb. 11 village board meeting. The plan would be an update of the 1999 Comprehensive Plan, and would reflect the changes in businesses, land owners and occupants, the economy and other factors over the 14 years since that previous plan. “While there have been updates to the 1999 Comprehensive Plan, the changes in our village over the past five years have been significant,” Horne said. The village wants to give residents background and details on a company's attempt to locate a waste transfer station here, and what the village can and can't do in response. A newsletter is mailing today.
After 22 residents spoke out on Aug. 13 against the idea of a waste transfer station coming to Morton Grove, the village has prepared a special edition of its newsletter devoted to explaining the issue. The newsletter will be at the post office today and residents may receive it in their mailboxes as soon as Saturday. Out of 80 applicants and six finalists, village selects a familiar figure.
Morton Grove Village President Dan Staackmann announced his intention to appoint Ryan Horne, who has been performing the village administrator job for the past few months, to the position permanently, according to a statement released late Wednesday. Staackmann will ask the village board to confirm Horne's appointment at the April 23 village board meeting. Horne has acted as village administrator pro tem since Joe Wade left in December. Before that, Horne had served as finance director since 2009 and assistant finance director since 2007. He holds an MBA from Northeastern Illinois University and is also a Certified Public Accountant.
