Santa Rides Through Morton Grove

Riding atop a Public Works Department truck, the Jolly Old Elf tossed candy to deserving children--and some of the sweets were specially marked. Kids could redeem those for prizes. Photos by Andy DeMonte.

It isn't every day you see Santa riding down Dempster Street. Wanting to let the reindeer rest up, the Bearded One instead clambered aboard a Village of Morton Grove Public Works Department truck.  Santa and his helpers rode through town and distributed candy to delighted children. Fortunately, no lumps of coal were given out. Children who received specially marked pieces of candy were invited to come to the Prairie View Community Center to redeem them for presents. Santa's ride was organized by the Morton Grove Park District and the Village of Morton Grove. Like Niles-Morton Grove Patch on Facebook for news, conversation, fun

A big thank you to all the people who work to make Santa's tour of Morton Grove possible. The children, parents and residents of our town all have smiles on their faces when they see him coming down the street. We are "Small Town America" and your religion, race or creed just does not matter on this day.   more ›

Santa Arrives In Park Ridge

Winterfest get merry, with crowds strolling, festive lights and lots of giveaways from merchants.

As a Park Ridge fire truck clanged to a stop in front of the Park Ridge library Friday evening, people in the crowd pressed in for a closer look and children cried out "Santa!" Sure enough, an ivory-bearded elf, with trademark red suit and cap, emerged from the firetruck smiling and waving in the frosty air.  It took Santa a while to make his way through the crowd, because every child, and some adults, too, wanted to greet him. Eventually, he got into the Park Ridge library, where dozens of families lined up to let their kids tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. That kicked off Winterfest, when crowds of people visited shops in Uptown and the Devon Avenue shopping district in Park Ridge, with some waiting in Hodges Park for …

VIDEO: Santa Arrives By Firetruck At Golf Mill

Children run to see the Man in Red; he greets mayor and flicks tree-lighting switch.

Santa had no reindeer, but some pretty impressive wheels Saturday, arriving at Golf Mill Shopping Center in a shiny red firetruck and riding through the mall in a Ford Mustang. Children ran to greet him as soon as he got off the firetruck, and walked with him as he made his way to the lobby near JCPenney. There, he greeted Golf Mill staff and Mayor Robert Callero as a gathered crowd looked on. "I took your picture and put it on my tie," quipped Callero, motioning to his holiday neckpiece. Earlier: See the indoor Christmas tree forest To the crowd, the mayor said, "We wish you all the joys of the holiday season. I'll say please shop at the mall." With that, Santa walked over to a special light switch and, with the crowd watching, flipped a …
