Man, 90, Tricked, Robbed In Home-Entry Ruse

Two men came to the front door saying they needed to check something in the home. When they left, the elderly couple's jewelry was missing. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

  A 90-year-old man and his wife, who live in the 6800 block of Jonquil Terrace, were victimized Jan. 15 just after 5:45 p.m. when two men came to the front door of their home, according to police. They told the wife the house next door had contaminated water and that they needed to check the water in the victims' home. The first offender walked into the kitchen and ran the faucet. He asked if there were a faucet in the basement, and the wife took one of the offenders into the basement, inadvertently leaving the front door open, according to the report. The offender was in contact with someone via a two-way radio, police said, and the victims did not see any other offenders enter their home. The first offender told the victims their water …
