Cross country runner Emily Leonard paced Maine South with a four-place finish at the Harvey Braus Invitational.
Sebastian Acevedo may be starting his second season as Maine South’s volleyball coach, but he considers this the first real opportunity to put his stamp on a program that has historically struggled in the CSL South. “Last year it took about half a season to get to know me, get to trust me and learn the new offense and what we’re looking for,” Acevedo said. GIRLS TENNIS: It all starts at the top for the Niles North tennis team and coach John Amaro is happy that his captain is setting the tone. Erica Markovitz carries an undefeated mark of 5-0, helping lead Niles North to a 4-1 record in its five dual meets. “She is stronger, smarter and faster than last year,” Amaro said. “Her leadership is crucial and beneficial to the team.” Niles North has beaten Evanston, Niles West, North Shore Country Day and Elmwood Park so far this season with its only loss coming against St. Viator in a tight 4-3 match.
