The team will take on Whitney Young at New Trier High School tomorrow at 5 p.m.
The Maine South Girls Soccer Team will take on Wilmette’s Loyola Academy tomorrow in the New Trier Sectional semi-finals game. Maine South beat Chicago’s Whitney Young High School in the regional finals to advance to the next level in the tournament. Tomorrow's game is set for 5 p.m. at New Trier High School. The winner head to the sectional championships on Friday, May 24. The Girls Soccer state finals are set for June 1 at North Central College in Naperville.
Maine South's Emily Leonard took 28th place in the 3,200-Meter Run.
Maine South High School’s Emily Leonard had a strong showing at the Girls Track & Field state finals this weekend, according to the Illinois High School Association’s website. Leonard took 28th place in the 3,200-Meter Run with a time of 11:24.68 The winner in the event was Madeline Perez of Glenbard West with a time of 10:22.29. Several athletes from Niles West, Niles North and Northridge Prep competed in the meet last weekend.
Several Niles-area gymnasts competed in the Illinois High School Association state meet this weekend at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfurt. Niles West freshman Nomondalai Jamiyankhuu was the stand-out, with a 12th place all-around finish. Jamiyankhuu also placed in the floor exercise, pommel horse, vault, parallel and horizontal bars, according to the IHSA website. The 8th annual Tour of Elk Grove takes place the first weekend in August.
Area cyclists have a big race to look forward to this year. The 8th annual Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove will take place Friday, Aug. 2-Sunday, Aug. 4. The event features world-class athletes with more than a dozen professional and amateur races to choose from. The most notable race at the event is the Men’s Pro Stage race, which is an International Cycling Union category 2.1 designation. This means the Tour of Elk Grove will be listed as one of the world’s top cycling events and attract elite international cyclists. The Niles school will play New Trier for the chance to advance to the sectional championships.
Notre Dame College Prep is playing in the boys’ basketball sectional semi-finals game tonight against Winnetka’s New Trier at 7:30 p.m. The game takes place at Glenbrook North High school in Northbrook. Notre Dame advanced the to semi-finals after beating out Chicago’s Foreman in the regional finals game. Tonight’s game was pushed back by one day due to Tuesday’s snowstorm. If Notre Dame wins, they will take on Niles North in the sectional championship tomorrow at Glenbrook North High School at 7:30 p.m. Watch highlights from the Niles North/Maine South game.

Bob Williams achieved the milestone last week in a game against Maine West High School, CSL Insider reports.

Niles West High School boys basketball coach Bob Williams has achieved a milestone in his coaching career. Williams earned his 400th career win last week when Niles West beat Maine West 58-51 in the final regular season game of the season, CSL Insider reports. Williams, who has been the coach at Niles West for four seasons, was presented with the game ball after the game for his successes. He was formerly the coach at Schaumburg for 18 years.

The Maine South boys’ basketball team beat Niles North Wednesday to clinch the Central Suburban League title, the Niles Herald-Spectator reports. The Hawks came out on top over the Vikings with a 64-61 win in double-overtime play. Maine South’s top scorer was senior Danny Quinn with 9 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists, the newspaper reports.

Registration for the 36th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon is open to the first 45,000 entrants. Will Niles-Morton Grove residents be among them?
For running enthusiasts hoping to register for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this week, technical difficulties have temporarily halted runner registration. Registration opened Tuesday for the 26.2-mile race, which begins and ends in Grant Park, but ended shortly after due to errors with the online registration process. "We have been working nonstop with our registration provider to find the root of the problem and a solution. Many runners were able to sign up before the registration process was suspended. There are currently 15,000 entries remaining. Before we re-open registration, we need to make sure all technical issues are permanently resolved. We will provide ample notice regarding when the registration process will re-open…

Congratulations to Maine South High School's Haleigh Sir. The senior gymnast has qualified for the state finals. Sir qualified for the state meet at Feb. 4’s sectional at Fremd High School, placing 29th in the floor exercise, according to the Illinois State Gymnastics Stats website. She will compete in the floor exercise at the state meet on Feb. 15 and 16 at Palatine High School.

Congratulations to the five Niles-area wrestlers qualified for the state tournament this weekend at Maine East High School, according to IHSA results. The athletes will now compete at the state wrestling tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.
