His visit tonight is meant for residents of the north suburbs; he'll speak at 7 p.m.
Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago will visit St. John Brebeuf Church tonight (Monday, Oct. 1) as part of a series of visiting with Catholics around the archdiocese this fall. The visit is meant for all Catholics in the northern suburbs, according to the parish. The cardinal will speak on the topic of religious liberty. According to the parish, the cardinal wrote a letter last spring saying he desires to "keep these issues before the public without being captured in political debate in a partisan way. These are matters of principle, not personality." Additionally, the cardinal wrote that it's important "to frame the conversation so that the principles can be heard above tactics to isolate the bishops, on the one hand, …

They did several laps to raise money for the school and its athletic department.
Students had to dodge a few raindrops Thursday during St. John Brebeuf School's Walk-a-Thon, but only a few. Kindergarteners through eighth graders walked during the morning hours to raise money for the school and its athletic department, making laps down Harlem Avenue to Cleveland, west to Grennan Heights Park, north to Main Street and then back east to Harlem Avenue, where the Niles school is located. 'The athletic department organizes it. The money raised goes to athletics, and some also goes to the school," said Veronica Cash, the school's assistant principal. The volunteers who organized the Walk-A-Thon, Kelli Murphy and Angela Schurr, organized pledge forms that asked each of the school's 310 students to raise at least $20 each. "It …

Earlier: Cardinal George visits Niles for Golden Anniversaries Barbara, now 70, and Don, 74, attended a golden anniversary Mass with Cardinal Francis George and 350 other Catholic couples at St. John Brebeuf in Niles on Sunday. The Archdiocese of Chicago holds the event annually to honor couples who have stayed together for 50 years. “Patience, and a lot of prayers,” is what the two cite as the key to their long …
