Steven L. Robbins was taken back to an Indiana prison after being mistakenly released last week.
Steven L. Robbins has returned to the custody of the Indiana Department of Corrections, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said. Robbins, 44, made a brief court appearance Friday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, located at 26th and California Ave., where a judge quashed the warrant for Robbins’ arrest that was issued after he was mistakenly released from Cook County Jail on Wednesday. Members of the Sheriff’s Police Central Warrants Unit returned Robbins early this afternoon to the Indiana Department of Corrections, where he is serving a 60-year sentence for murder and having a gun without a license. The Cook County Sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s help apprehending an offender that has been mistakenly released. Steven L. Robbins, 44 years of age, is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs 190 pounds. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck that reads “Nicole.” Robbins was born in Gary, Ind. and is serving a sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections for murder. The Sheriff has ordered an investigation into the facts and circumstances regarding his court appearance and release from custody. Law enforcement is searching for Robbins. It was STUPID to bring Robbins here to begin with for the Illinois warrant. That stupidity cost a fortune in his recapture. Very fortunate that no one was hurt or killed as a result of this. Your tax dollars at work.   more ›
