He was asking her to pay the fare. And in another incident, scammers told an 80-year-old woman her grandson had been arrested, but she didn't fall for it. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
A male taxi driver, 67, from Blue Island reported Feb. 16 just after 2 a.m. that his passenger, a 27-year-old Arlington Heights woman, got into a fare dispute with him. The passenger used a debit card to pay for her fare, but did not sign the receipt, he said, after he drove her to a location in the 7600 block of Milwaukee Avenue, according to the report. As she was walking away, he tried to stop her to ask her to sign the receipt, and she slapped him in the head and went inside, the report indicated. Police found the woman, who said she paid with her debit card and did not realize she hadn't signed the receipt. She said she did not remember slapping the driver.
