New B-PAC members take chairmanship, treasurer posts.
Five new members were sworn into the board of the Morton Grove Public Library Thursday night at a tense meeting that touched lingering sore spots from a hard-fought spring election that swept in four of them. The fifth, Christa Quinn, was appointed at the April board meeting over the public objection of the four trustees-elect, who ran under the party name B-PAC, an acronym of the last names of Paul Berg, Catherine Peters, Mark Albers and David Calimag. New board president and treasurer Now holding a majority of the seven-member board, the B-PAC trustees nominated one of their own, Albers, to fill the vacant chairman’s position. In a move that took the incumbent trustees by surprise, they also removed the existing treasurer, Arthur …
Board of trustees goes to one slate, while library board victories dominated by the other group.
On Election Day, Morton Grove voters made decisions by party line, or at least that's what the April 5 balloting indicates as Cook County has started reporting results from all 17 precincts in town. To see the percentages and number of votes, check out our graphs here. For the open seats on the board of trustees, all three went to Action Party candidates: Shel Marcus, John Thill and Maria Toth. Likewise, the six-year terms on the Morton Grove Public Library Board went to B-PAC candidates: Mark Albers, Peter Berg and Catherine Peters. The lone two- year term also went to a B-PAC candidate, David Calimag. For both the village board and library board races, the space between winning and losing came down to few hundred votes. For example, the …

Congrats B-PAC. Now, do as you have promised. Action party definitely wasn't the "clear" winner. Very close. Looks like MG is split almost 50:50 between Action:Caucus. Action guys have another term to turn things around, but I have to say, I have little faith in them. Not that Caucus guys had better answers, but I just see MG going in the wrong direction now and for the past few years. We need …   more ›
By early afternoon on Tuesday, workers and voters at the polls say Election Day has been mostly blue skies.
UPDATED 5:45 PM WITH NEW PHOTOS AND TEXT -- Outside the Morton Grove Civic Center on Tuesday afternoon, the sun was shining down on candidates and voters as they made their way into voting booths for Precincts 53, 54 and 57. "It seems like a lot of people are coming out," said voter Sue Mangino, a Morton Grove resident and former school board trustee for District 70 Park View School. "There are important issues at stake with the village and the library." Library board candidates Mark Albers and Laura Frisch offered voters their campaign business cards and their greetings as the voters went into the building to vote. Both said they've been clocking early hours of campaigning today, with one starting at 5:30 a.m. and one at 4:30 a.m. When …

Board member of Morton Grove Public Library and coordinator for PROLibrary election organization Daniel Hoffman responds to recent campaign statements for the April 5 election.
I would like to take this opportunity to once again point out how grossly uneducated and misinformed Mark Albers and his fellow members of B-PAC are on how a Library Board of Trustees works. They have repeatedly demonstrated an inability to do the most basic due diligence before presenting as fact to the population of Morton Grove such assertions (in their own words) as “The taxpayers do not have to vote to approve a new [library] building. Any referendum is only advisory. The library board may overrule it. The village board cannot block it. The simple, frightening truth is that seven people can decide to spend $20-30 million to build a new library no matter what anyone else thinks. That is why [our group] exists." Through their own …

I would like to know who put Mr. Podgers up on a pedestal, so he can look down on others an reprimand them for not agreeing with his version of the truth. Whenever I see the term Troll, I think of a person who has run out of valid arguments and is resorting to name calling. Rather juvenile. The current library board suffers from the same arrogance as the village board. They will only meet …   more ›

Maybe you are correct. Anyway, I know what I'm doing. I'm actually voting for two from each side. I know some of these people and I can't vote for them, so I'm just going to ignore their self-proclaimed parties and instead vote for the 4 individuals I think best fit the post. I guess this is better than not voting at all.   more ›

I still view these tactics as silly rethorics and innuendos. It is really sad to see that the entire focus of what this campaign should be about has been replaced (at least at this forum) by angry, demeaning finger pointing. How are we suppose to trust any of these candidates when they display this behavior. Being an advocate of any instutiation requires ability to be flexibile, able to stay …   more ›

Laura....don't count on me. I just read the letter to the editor regarding the library consultants and the forum. Long term vision...looks more like short term fraud! I have to ask everybody to read this letter to the editor before voting. Check out the link below. http://mortongrove.patch.com/announcements/b-pac-reminds-morton-grove-to-vote-april-5th   more ›
