Young Woman Found in Canal Pronounced Dead

A 24-year-old Skokie woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after a pedestrian saw her body in a canal near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard Saturday morning.

Update 11/17, 7:54 p.m. -  Both the Evanston and Skokie Fire departments responded to the canal at Main Street and McCormick Boulevard regarding a report of a female who had jumped into the canal on Saturday around 10 a.m.  The departments conducted joint operations, and with the help of a reliable eye witness were able to determine the exact location where she went under. At this time, it is unclear why the woman jumped into the canal.  The woman - who has not yet been identified - was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where she was pronounced dead several hours later.
