One year, the Niles Fire Department won. Another, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church took home the honors. This year, the Niles Police Department got the glory of winning Golf Mill Shopping Center's "Festival of Trees" food drive by collecting the greatest number of donations to the holiday food drive--4,423. "I am very excited that we won the contest and want to thank all of those that supported the Police Department," said Niles Police Chief Dean Strzelecki. The bins are kind of bare, and Thanksgiving is coming. The village is collecting non-perishable food for the holidays. It also is asking for donations of new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.

The Village of Niles & Niles Fire Department announce the 9th annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve/Village of Niles Toys for Tots Drive & Community Food Drive. Toys for Tots is a charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve that provides toys to children in need during the holidays. In 2011, you helped provide food to 105 local families through Niles Family Services. The need may rise this year. For children in need, the gift of a new toy means that someone cares and that they were not forgotten. This was a wonderful effort by the folks at Golf Mill Shopping Center. The food for the Maine Township Emergency Food Pantry was much needed and appreciated.
