Update: The person killed was a man, born in 1942 and thus approximately age 70, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The man was walking on or near the tracks, he said, and may have crossed the tracks. As of Saturday afternoon, his next of kin had not been found to notify them. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office may rule on the cause of death early in the coming week. Danny You was on top of the world, a friend said, and was crossing train tracks in Morton Grove to meet his fiancee on the other side. She saw the train strike him.
Danny You died on what had been one of the happiest days of his life, a friend said Thursday. You, 38, was crossing the train tracks in Morton Grove at about 6 p.m. Tuesday to meet his fiancee on the other side, said Michael Slattery of Skokie, who identified himself as You's roommate, friend and co-worker at a Morton Grove moving company. "He was on top of the world, because they were supposed to get married Wednesday (the following day)," Slattery said. "He had it all set. They were going to get married at the courthouse." It' happened during rush hour Tuesday evening.
A northbound Metra train struck a 38-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing the train tracks south of the Morton Grove Metra station Tuesday evening, according to Commander Paul Yaras of the Morton Grove Police Department. The incident happened after 6 p.m. about 8300 north on the tracks, which run paralled to Lehigh Avenue. There is no pedestrian or vehicle crossing at that point, and Yaras said it may have been an accident. Danny You, of Skokie, was killed, according to the Sun-Times. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death of William Woitesek Thursday night a suicide. Woitesek, 49, died on the train tracks just south of the Morton Grove train station Thursday night around 8 p.m., according to information provided earlier by Morton Grove police. A Medical Examiner's Office staff member named Mary M., who asked that her last name not be used, provided the information the death had been ruled a suicide. She also said Woitesek had lived at 6300 W. Touhy, Niles. That is the address of the Leaning Tower YMCA, which has residential rooms. Cook County Medical Examiner's Office Releases Name.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of the person killed Thursday by a Metra train just south of the Morton Grove train station. They gave the name as William Woitesek. They had no other information at this time, but said more information may be available in the future. Earlier: Man killed by Metra train Thursday Woitesek died when an inbound North Central Service train stuck him as he was walking on the tracks at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
