My family and I have lived in Morton Grove for nearly two decades.  I fell in love with this town because of its charm and easy location.  We're close enough to the city and lakefront, near the airport and larger bustling communities – but our Village is very suburban in feel: quiet neighborhoods of homes maintained with pride; friendly and outgoing neighbors; schools where every child is known by first name; grassy parkways and mature shade trees everywhere.  In short, a perfect place to put down roots and raise a family.

Shortly after arriving in town, I mentioned to a friend that I'd like to get more involved in my community.  I was introduced to then-Mayor Dan Scanlon, who encouraged me to get involved – to use my talents and abilities for the betterment of the Village.  Mayor Scanlon appointed me to my first commission, and it's been full-speed ahead ever since.  I've volunteered my time on three Village commissions (Community Relations, Appearance, and Economic Development); became a member of the Action Party of Morton Grove (served on the Board of Directors and as Media Director for the 2007 and 2009 municipal election campaigns); currently volunteer at Park View School and St. Martha's Church; donate my energies to a rescue group for beagles; and serve as the Assistant Youth Director for a local ethnic group.  I currently serve as a Village Trustee, having been appointed by Mayor Staackmann in 2009.  I have a bachelor's degree in communication/journalism and have taught German as a second language.  I love the arts (quilting, needlework, scrapbooking) and can be found at almost any event lately with camera firmly in hand.

I look forward to contributing ideas, articles, and photos to Morton Grove Patch, highlighting some of the things that interest our unique community!
