Michael is a lifelong resident of the 20th legislative district living in Chicago's Oriole Park Neighborhood with his wife Kim and two children. In the Illinois House, Michael is the spokesperson for the Healthcare Licenses and Veterans Affairs Committees. Additionally, Michael is a member of Appropriations on Public Safety, Healthcare Availability Access, Museums & Cultural Enhancement, Public Utilities, and the Tourism & Conventions House Committees.

He was chosen by Secretary of State Jesse White to serve on the prestigious Traffic Safety Advisory Committee. Michael has led the charge to pass legislation to support public safety, military and veterans, education, public health and economic development.

Michael has been honored by numerous organizations for his unwavering commitment and service to his constituents including the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois, Illinois Crime Commission, New Horizon School for the Developmentally Disabled, Illinois Committee of Blind Vendors, Illinois Athletic Trainers Association and Illinois Park Districts.

McAuliffe graduated from Holy Cross High School and attended Triton College.
