Mary Ann Hynes Receives Impresa Award

Women's organization honored Niles resident for many achievements, including first female general counsel for a Fortune 500 company.

 

Mary Ann Hynes' accomplishments could barely fit on the one page of the Impresa Awards program allotted to them.

They include her position as senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer for Ingredion Inc., (formerly known as Corn Products International), a $6.3 billion supplier of food industry ingredients.

That, and the many other impressive items on her resume, caught the eye of the Women's Division of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. Every two years, the organization honors a small group of accomplished Italian-American women with its Impresa Award, to both recognize what they have done and because they serve as role models for younger women, according to its written materials. 

The JCCIA said Hynes (whose maiden name is Iantorno):

  • received the Annual Transformative Leadership Award from Inside Counsel.
  • received the American Bar Association Glass Cutter Award
  • received the Distinguished Alumni award from John Marshall Law School
  • is a trustee on the John Marshall Law School Board and president of the law school's foundation.

The organization presented the awards at a luncheon Saturday at Medinah Country Club.

"I'm very proud of my Italian heritage, and I've claimed my Italian citizenship," Hynes said after receiving the award.

She credited her ancestors for leaving their country to seek a better life in a new land, saying they deserved an award for their courage and idealism in coming to the United States.
