Driver's License Facility Opens In Des Plaines; Replaces Niles Secretary of State Office

It will offer the same services the Niles facility did, including issuing Illinois driver's licenses, address changes, issuing driver's permits, providing vehicle stickers and many more.

Niles and Morton Grove-area residents no longer need to drive long distances to get to a driver's license facility, after many were forced to do after the Illinois Secretary of State office at Niles' Four Flaggs Shopping Center closed earlier this year.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White was on hand Wednesday for a ribbon-cutting at the new facility at 1470 Lee Street in Des Plaines.

“This state-of-the-art facility will better serve customers with more services and available parking for people in Des Plaines and the surrounding communities,” said White, according to his office.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

The new location offers the same services as the Niles facility and has a better layout that is more accessible to persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

The facility offers services that include: • Address change • Instruction permit issuance (first-time), vision screening, renewal and duplicate • Driver’s license issuance (first-time), vision screening, renewal and duplicate • State ID issuance (first-time), renewal and duplicate • Commercial driver’s license (CDL) vision screening, renewal and duplicate • Temporary disability parking placard issuance (first-time) and replacement • Driver record (abstract) • Motorcycle written tests • Vision, written and road tests • Vehicle sticker renewal and replacement • Nonsufficient funds • Non-CDL road and written tests • Organ/tissue donor registration • Voter registration applications
