$1,400 Of Goods Stolen From Chevy Van, Police Say

Also, a cashier is charged with taking cash, and a mother refuses to wake up a daughter when police investigate. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

A 65-year-old resident in the 8100 block of Ozark said on Oct. 31, just after midnight, that someone broke into the rear door passenger side window of his Chevrolet van and took $1,400 worth of items, according to the police report.

Elizabeth Mateycak, 24, of Franklin Park, was charged with retail theft Oct. 28 at a store in Golf Mill Shopping Center, where she was employed for more than a year. The store's security observed her cash register had come up short in amounts from $70 to $221, according to the police report.  One security video showed her pocketing money; the security agent and a supervisor interviewed her and she admitted taking about $800 in a month, according to police. Her court date is Nov. 20 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts. 

Homeowner's landscaping lights destroyed in criminal damage case

A 66-year-old man in the 8100 block of Meacham Court told police all his solar-powered landscaping lights in front of his home were totally destroyed between 7 and 11 a.m. on Oct. 30. He said neighbors told him the letter carrier saw a suspect in the area, police said. Police went to the home of the suspect, a 29-year-old woman in Susan Court, but her mother told police she was sleeping and refused to wake her up, according to the report. The mother told police the daughter is closely supervised and was not in the area of the landscaping lights.
